RESPONSIVE : BRIEF - LCA christmas card

Leeds College of Art :

The first port of call I looked into when thinking of concepts for the christmas card for Leeds College of Art was the mosaic which was created in 1903 by Gerald E. Moira who was an English painter who became best known for his murals. It is an iconic image and is very recognisable, which is why I have chosen to study it and use it in a concept for the cards.

When researching the history of Leeds College of Art I came across this college magazine from 1933. The use of the Owl is a symbol of Leeds. The owl can be found all across leeds on dustbins, on bridges and the golden owls at millennium square. The symbol of the owl is something very specific to Leeds and there for leeds college of art.

Christmas Cards :

I have looked into interesting and different christmas cards to see how adventurous you can be when designing christmas cards.

This card was designed by Studio 91 it is a christmas card that becomes a 3d flying santa plane. This is a really creative card that has an interactive quality. It has many purposes, as  card, as a toy , as an ornament. It is entertaining and quirky and makes this concept of a christmas card memorable.

This is an interesting concept for a christmas card, it features things that are associated with christmas such as a recipie for mince pies but without any chirsmtas imagery. This shows how powerful word assosiation is, you dont need to see images of christmas or the word chirstmas to know that it is a christmas card.

card by David Sykes  This concept of using something that is not to do with christmas, but changing it into a christmas object is really interesting. It like with the example before shows the power of christmas association.

This uses the same concept of making a christmas object from other objects. I am going to experiment with this concept for myself as i think it is effective.

This card came to my attention as I liked the way it showed the snowman made of circles there are so many things that make circles I may experiment into what could make a snowman through printing circles.
