GOOD IS : Research

Good is :

I have decided to do some visual research into my favourite 'what is good' choices, as this will hopefully aid me to make my decision for the crit as to what my 'Good' is.

Out of the list I generated today my favourite goods were :

- Bulldogs
- Leeds above the shops
- Looking up
- sea side towns

Bulldogs :

This would be a good option to choose in terms of research, as my parents have three bulldogs at home and I have a bulldog in Leeds, and last year we hand reared 5 bulldogs puppies from the day they were born. So I have access to many, many books, first hand experience, first hands example dogs, so I am pretty clued up about Bulldogs.

Primary research :

Facts :

Bulldogs, like many brachycephalic (large-skulled) dogs are not well-suited for water and are in danger of drowning when swimming.

Many celebrities own bulldogs including Leonardo DiCaprio, Reese Witherspoon, David Beckham, Ashley Olsen, Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, and Martha Stewart

Bulldogs originally were used to drive cattle to market and to compete in a bloody sport called bullbaiting. Today, they're gentle companions who love kids. A brief walk and a nap on the sofa is just this dog breed's speed.

Size: The weight of Bulldogs range from 40 - 50 pounds

The height ranges from 12 - 15 inches, up to the shoulder

Secondary imagry :

Bulldogs have a very individual personality, they are all strange creatures who are part dog, part human and part alien. Below are some videos highlighting this fact.

Products :

There are many products out that feature the bulldog as a design. Many clothing companies use bulldogs on their t-shirts or products such as mugs, cushions, door stops etc, which all can look really lovely. But then you get the other kind of products which are made for crazy bulldog people and are genrally really tacky and have no design quality, these things might be book mars, coasters, mouse matts, phone cases etc.

There are also weird an wonderful products featuring bulldogs, such as vintage posters/books, statues, book stands. The bulldog was an iconic image back during the war time so there is lots of really interesting old bulldog items.

There are many Books available as guides of how to look after your bulldog. These guides are filled with interesting and relevant information for bulldog owners, and are very popular due to the fact the bulldog can sometimes be a tricky dog in certain situations like hot weather, so these books help. They all have that generic dog book look, in the style of the bulldog merchandise made for crazy dog people, so they are not that visualy aesthetic. This could be something interesting to look into doing, if i choose bulldogs as my good.

Leeds above the shops x Look up :

I really love the architecture of Leeds city centre, espeically above all the shop fronts, if you look up and ignore the shop front there are some truley stunning buildings. I also love the fact that nothing matches , everything is very different which is visually very interesting and brings so much character to Leeds, compared to somewhere like Bath, where I studied for a year, Bath is renowned for being beautiful, but I found after seeing it a couple of times, quite boring as the architecture is all done the same it is a very regimented town, where as with Leeds eveytime you step out you'll notice something new and exciting.

I have decided that Leeds above the shops, could be combined with my other topic looking up, as you have to look up to see above the shop fronts and they can be tied in together.

Below is some examples of Leeds architecture -

Seaside towns :

Sea side towns are something I find very interesting, they have so much character espeically the pleasure beaches such as Whitby , Cromer and blackpool. I don't know much about the history of pleasure beaches, so would find this topic really interesting to research.
